Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says his side can learn from their recent Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Sevilla.

Guardiola’s side beat Sevilla 1-0 at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday night, but that result was not enough to overturn the first leg deficit of 2-1 from the Nou Camp and Barca were knocked out on away goals.

The champions now face Sevilla once more at the Nou Camp tomorrow night, with their cup exit still at the forefront of their minds.

“In order to learn, defeat is the most productive thing there is, but there is nothing positive about it because we are here to perform,” said Guardiola.

And he insists that part of the blame for the team’s exit lies on his shoulders.

“I lament the fact that I wasn’t able to transmit more to my players, that we weren’t able to play well for the 90 minutes,” he said.

And following their recent cup defeat at home to Sevilla, Guardiola is wary of the threat the Andalusians will pose tomorrow.

“Sevilla won’t drop many points this season, so we know it will be a hard match,” he said.

Manolo Jimenez’s side have lost their last three games in the Primera Division, though, as well as losing at home to Barcelona on Wednesday.

Guardiola says Barcelona will stick to the same tactical plan, despite going down to Sevilla in the cup.

“Tactically, we will approach the game as we always do,” he said.

Barca still lead the Primera Division by two points from fierce rivals Real Madrid.

Midfielders Seydou Keita and Yaya Toure are both away at the African Cup of Nations, while Jeffren is injured.

But Guardiola should have an otherwise full-strength squad available for tomorrow night’s match.

Sevilla are missing several important players.

Frederic Kanoute and Didier Zokora are away at the African Cup of Nations, while Luis Fabiano remains sidelined.

The Brazil striker is back in training, but is not ready to return to action just yet.

Sebastien Squillaci and Diego Perotti also miss out through injury.

Sevilla have lost three in a row in the league and the club’s recent poor form has seen them drop out of the top four.

Knocking Barcelona out of the Copa del Rey was a big boost for the Andalusians, but Jimenez knows tomorrow’s game will be extremely difficult.

“Barcelona are the best team in the world,” he said today.

“It is never easy to play against them, but we have high hopes and, despite the effort we made (in the two recent cup games), we want to achieve a good result for the third time,” he added.

And the Sevilla coach believes his team can produce a repeat of their recent victory at the Nou Camp.

“If we were capable of knocking them out, we can repeat it, but we know they are a very good team – we have shown that we are capable of beating anyone, but also of losing against anyone,” he said.
